CogniLocal is designed to collect as little reader information as practical.
What CogniLocal collects
CogniLocal does not currently require reader accounts, subscriptions or logins.
If you email editor@cognilocal.com, send a tip, request a correction or otherwise contact CogniLocal, we receive the information you choose to provide, such as your name, email address, message and any attachments.
Basic website logs
Like most websites, CogniLocal's hosting provider may process ordinary server-log information needed to deliver and protect the site. This can include an IP address, browser or device information, requested pages, timestamps and technical error information.
Weather data
CogniLocal edition pages include a simple weather-at-a-glance block. Your browser requests weather data directly from Open-Meteo. CogniLocal configures those requests not to send browser credentials or cookies. Open-Meteo may nevertheless receive ordinary network information associated with the request, such as your IP address and technical request metadata.

How information is used
Information sent to CogniLocal may be used to evaluate news tips, verify information, respond to questions, process corrections, maintain editorial records, protect the site and communicate with you about the reason you contacted us.
Advertising and targeted tracking
CogniLocal does not currently use behavioral advertising or targeted-advertising trackers and does not sell personal information.
Third-party links
CogniLocal links extensively to government agencies, schools, businesses, nonprofits, news organizations and other sources. Those external sites operate under their own privacy and cookie practices. CogniLocal does not control those practices.
Reader submissions and editorial use
Sending a tip does not guarantee publication. Reader-submitted claims are treated as leads and are subject to CogniLocal's verification standards. CogniLocal may retain correspondence and source material as reasonably needed for editorial, security, legal or recordkeeping purposes.
Your choices
If you have a privacy question or want to ask about personal information you previously provided directly to CogniLocal, contact editor@cognilocal.com. Depending on applicable law and the circumstances, additional privacy rights may apply.
Changes
If CogniLocal adds analytics, advertising technology, reader accounts, newsletter tracking or other features that materially change its data practices, this policy will be updated.

On-demand translation
The Español link opens Google Translate in another tab for the selected public edition. CogniLocal does not load a translation script or send a translation request before you choose the link. When you open it, Google receives your request and its privacy practices apply. The original English edition remains available on CogniLocal.
