UPDATE

Trustees will begin the post-moratorium data-center policy discussion tonight

The Board of Trustees study-session agenda is now available and identifies four 30-minute discussion topics: initial land-use considerations for data centers, a Capital Improvements Program Manual, proposed Purchasing Policy updates, and Board meeting procedures and practices. The data-center item is the first identified policy discussion since trustees adopted a one-year moratorium on new data-center applications on September 22. This is a study session, so the agenda does not list a final ordinance or other vote. The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at Town Hall and is also streamed online.

Yesterday's edition could confirm the meeting but not its substantive topics. The four discussion topics are now confirmed.

  • Publication date: Not stated on the agenda page; agenda verified September 29, 2026
  • Event date: September 29, 2026, 6:30 p.m.
  • Latest confirmed status: The moratorium remains in force, and trustees are moving into discussion of permanent land-use rules.
  • Unresolved: No permanent data-center standards, purchasing-policy revisions, capital-improvement manual, or Board-procedure changes have been adopted.

I-25 east frontage-road lane restrictions lead into an October 1-9 closure

NEWBerthoud

Thompson School District has moved AI into formal guidance, tools and classroom planning

Thompson School District, which serves Berthoud, established an AI Task Force during the 2024-25 school year and developed guiding principles, usage guidelines and recommendations for pilot tools during 2025-26.

The district says the work continues through its Technology Advisory and Leadership Committee. The result is a formal districtwide framework for how artificial intelligence enters teaching, learning and school operations.

  • AI Task Force established: 2024-25 school year
  • Pilot-tool recommendations: 2025-26 school year
NEWBerthoud

Berthoud has already fielded data-center siting requests

Berthoud has already responded to inquiries about potential data-center sites, according to Town Administrator Chris Kirk in a May report by the Berthoud Weekly Surveyor. Kirk identified the Turion site as the most realistic location in town for a large data center.

No Berthoud data-center project is established as approved by that report. The significance for this beat is narrower: the physical infrastructure associated with rapidly growing computing and AI demand has already reached local siting conversations.

  • Local report: May 20, 2026

The source describes siting inquiries; it does not establish an approved Berthoud project.

NEWLarimer County / Berthoud area

Larimer County has a generative-AI policy that reaches local government work

Larimer County maintains a formal Generative Artificial Intelligence policy and points outside grant applicants to it as a model for responsible AI use. County Behavioral Health Services also gives applicants explicit guidance on fact-checking AI output, protecting confidential information and keeping human responsibility for final submissions.

Berthoud is one of the municipalities within Larimer County. The policy does not prove that every county office is using AI, but it establishes that county government has moved far enough into the technology to create operational rules for it.

  • County guidance: Formal Generative Artificial Intelligence policy
  • Public-facing use: Behavioral Health grant applicants receive AI-specific guidance
