Thompson School District has moved AI into formal guidance, tools and classroom planning

Thompson School District, which serves Berthoud, established an AI Task Force during the 2024-25 school year and developed guiding principles, usage guidelines and recommendations for pilot tools during 2025-26.

The district says the work continues through its Technology Advisory and Leadership Committee. The result is a formal districtwide framework for how artificial intelligence enters teaching, learning and school operations.

Berthoud has already fielded data-center siting requests

Berthoud has already responded to inquiries about potential data-center sites, according to Town Administrator Chris Kirk in a May report by the Berthoud Weekly Surveyor. Kirk identified the Turion site as the most realistic location in town for a large data center.

No Berthoud data-center project is established as approved by that report. The significance for this beat is narrower: the physical infrastructure associated with rapidly growing computing and AI demand has already reached local siting conversations.

  • Local report: May 20, 2026

The source describes siting inquiries; it does not establish an approved Berthoud project.

Larimer County has a generative-AI policy that reaches local government work

Larimer County maintains a formal Generative Artificial Intelligence policy and points outside grant applicants to it as a model for responsible AI use. County Behavioral Health Services also gives applicants explicit guidance on fact-checking AI output, protecting confidential information and keeping human responsibility for final submissions.

Berthoud is one of the municipalities within Larimer County. The policy does not prove that every county office is using AI, but it establishes that county government has moved far enough into the technology to create operational rules for it.

  • Public-facing use: Behavioral Health grant applicants receive AI-specific guidance

Data-center policy remains on the town's agenda

The September 29 Board of Trustees study-session agenda included data-center land-use policy alongside the capital-improvement manual, purchasing policy and board procedures.

Data-center rules concern infrastructure that can support AI and other computing. The agenda does not establish a proposed operator, an approved facility or a particular AI system in use. The next substantive development is the town's record of the discussion and any resulting direction or action.
