Thompson School District has moved AI into formal guidance, tools and classroom planning

Thompson School District, which serves Berthoud, established an AI Task Force during the 2024-25 school year. The group developed guiding principles, usage guidelines and recommended tools for pilot use during the 2025-26 school year.

The district says the work continues through its Technology Advisory and Leadership Committee, and it lists district-approved AI tools for classroom use.

Berthoud has already fielded data-center siting requests

Berthoud has already responded to inquiries about potential data-center sites, according to Town Administrator Chris Kirk in a May 20 report by the Berthoud Weekly Surveyor. Kirk identified the Turion site as the most realistic location in town for a large data center.

No Berthoud data-center project is established as approved by that report. The significance for this beat is narrower: the physical infrastructure associated with rapidly growing computing and AI demand has already reached local siting conversations.

The source describes siting inquiries; it does not establish an approved Berthoud project.

Larimer County has a generative-AI policy that reaches local government work

Larimer County maintains a Generative Artificial Intelligence policy and shares it with outside grant applicants as a possible starting framework. County Behavioral Health Services also gives applicants explicit guidance on fact-checking AI output, protecting confidential information and keeping human responsibility for final submissions.

Berthoud is one of the municipalities within Larimer County. The policy does not prove that every county office is using AI, but it establishes that county government has moved far enough into the technology to create operational rules for it.

Data-center policy remains on the town's agenda

The Board of Trustees' Tuesday, September 29 study-session agenda included an initial discussion of land-use considerations for data centers, alongside the capital-improvements manual, purchasing policy and board procedures.

Data-center rules concern infrastructure that can support AI and other computing. The agenda does not establish a proposed operator, an approved facility or a particular AI system in use. The next substantive development is the town's record of the discussion and any resulting direction or action.
